I am going to take a break from travel blogging and talk about my time spent in Lexington this weekend.
UNC gave us a few wellness days to extend our weekend this week. I debated for a long time whether I should go to the beach, the mountains or somewhere fun on my days off. Then I came to the conclusion that I would not be able to travel home from wherever I am next year as easily as I can right now.
While you are in college, two places become your home. For me at least, it is hard to juggle wanting to soak in all the memories possible in the short four years I have in Chapel Hill, but also wanting to enjoy every second I can with my parents, sisters and grandparents while I am this close.
This weekend, I was able to spend some much-needed quality time with my family. I was able to eat dinner with my grandparents at the infamous Lexington Barbeque with my sister as our waitress. I went out with my parents and their best friends (they might as well be family) in Winston Salem on Saturday night, and they are more fun than I am, to say the least. I did lots of shopping with my mom. My sister and I went to our favorite coffee shop and she did her homework while I procrastinated by reading a book by my favorite author. I went on walks with my dog, Nala, every day. I made buffalo chicken dip and watched the Super Bowl (really the Rihanna halftime show and the commercials) with my whole family. And I am about to end my long wellness weekend with a homecooked meal from my dad for Valentine's day.
This time of life is so precious and I try my best to not take any of it for granted. I am going to be very intentional with the time I have left in my homes by visiting Lexington when I can and living it up while in Chapel Hill.
With love,
MLC
