Here's to Never Growing Up

Hi! This Blog post is going to be dedicated to the less than 24 hours I spent in Atlanta, Georgia, with my bestfriends! A few weeks ago, Kaitlyn, Ally, Anna, and I loaded the car at 5:30am and drove to Atlanta for one single reason… to go to the aquarium! Our parents, our other friends, and everyone we encountered before and after the trip did not and still do not really understand why we drove 5 hours to stay in Atlanta for less than 24. Nobody got it except for us, and you know, that is all that really matters. We had been wanting to re-visit since each of us went to the Georgia Aquarium on field trips with our 5th grade classes. With all of our busy work schedules and Kaitlyn's incredible trip out west this summer, we really only had the 24 hours that we went to go. So we were spontaneous and made our time well worth it.

We left Lexington before the sunrise after dragging Kk out of bed (surprisingly it was not Ally this time). Kk gained all of her energy around 7am, so as anyone would that early in the morning, Kk and I had a 4 hour dance party in the front seats while Ally and Anna were fed up in the back. Strictly 2010 pop hits were played, for I was on aux. We finally got to the aquarium around 11 and our day of adventures began. We walked around the place like we were back in elementary school, stopping at every single tank or exhibit in awe at the different creatures. We read all of the little fun facts about the animals and their natural habitats. Our highlights included Anna living her glory days of wanting to be a Marine Biologist, Kk doing her little happy dance every time we saw something cool, Ally yelling “Destiny!” after each time we saw a whale shark (from the Disney Movie - Finding Dory), and me getting my chicken tendies in the aquarium food court. We got overly excited about the little things, and probably looked out of place as there was not a soul there over the age of 16 unless it was a parent. We ended our trip with the dolphin show where Anna insisted we sit in the splash zone to “get the full effect.” It was more of a drench zone to say the least and left us walking to the parking deck soaked.

After we left the aquarium, we went to our hotel to get ready for dinner. It took a little longer than expected as Momma May May had to come out and convince the girls that it was not nap time and that we needed to go explore. After Anna and I spent about 30 minutes bickering, playfully of course mom, about where to eat, we finally decided on Superica at Krog Street Market! We all 10/10 recommend! The food was great and the area was so cute. It was near the Beltline, so after dinner we walked/rode scooters(of course) to a spot to watch the sunset and take pictures.

We laughed, Ally cried when she almost got her new shoes wet from the “splash zone,” and we made short but sweet memories that will last us a lifetime. The morals of the story are take spontaneous trips that make you happy, surround yourself with friends that make you feel like a kid again, and never lose your excitement over the little things. As Avril Lavigne said, "Here's to Never Growing Up." I know these girls will not allow me to do so and for that I am grateful.

With love,

Maymaycalli
