#NationalDrinkWineDay

Happy #NationalDrinkWineDay for those who celebrate!

According to National Geographic, Georgia is considered the "cradle of wine." Archaeologists have traced the world’s first known wine creation back to the people of the South Caucasus in 6,000 BC. These early Georgians discovered grape juice could be turned into wine by burying it underground for the winter. Georgians incorporated wine into art and sculpture, with grape designs and evidence of wine-drinking paraphernalia found at ruins and burial sites.

Although wine has taken different forms throughout the ages, the process has not changed very much in the thousands of years since it was invented. Grapes are crushed, pressed, and fermented and the mixture is sealed into barrels. The blend is aged and then bottled.

I was never much of a wine drinker until I forced myself to drink it. I wanted to acquire the taste simply for the aesthetic (and you can buy a whole bottle for $6 at Target, nothing good of course but college budget-friendly).

This past summer I was able to broaden my horizons and venture outside of my normal Barefoot. So in honor of #NationalDrinkWineDay, I am going to share my top 5 wines that I tasted while in Italy.

5. Vernaccia Di San Gimignano from Tenuta Torciano

4. S’A’ Supertuscany from Fattoria Sant'Appiano Winery

3. Doge Chianti Classico from Tenuta Torciano Winery

2. Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico at Ristorante La Giostra

1. Fragolino Red Sparkling Wine from Vini Di Toscana Winery

I hope everyone uses this #NationalDrinkWineDay to unwind and try a new bottle (or two).

With love,

MLC
